Morphology

This species of Tarantula has white stripes on its limbs. It has bright red fur that stands out on the black of its abdomen, and the fur on its back and on its abdomen is urticating. Like the other arachnids, it has 8 legs and two spinnerets, from which the fiber that makes the silk threads of its webs comes out.

Behaviour

The Brazilian white-kneed Tarantula actively hunts its prey, attacking it with a venomous bite. However, its venom is not dangerous to humans. Besides the biting, another defense strategy used by the Tarantula are its urticating hairs that cover its body and, when in contact with them, cause irritation to the skin.

Reproduction

When mating, females can be aggressive. However, when receptive, everything goes peacefully. They are oviparous animals and can lay between 50 to 200 eggs in a single egg sac.
