Another Dama Gazelle has been born, the most endangered gazelle in the world

Zoo Santo Inácio is celebrating the birth of yet another Dama Gazelle (Nanger dama mhorr) – the largest of all the species in the gazelle family and one of the rarest antelopes in the world.

The Dama Gazelle is classified as “Critically Endangered” by the IUCN, and its main threats are over-hunting, the loss and degradation of its habitat due to pressure from domestic livestock and the increasing temperatures (desert conditions) that make it difficult for it to survive.
