Zoo Santo Inácio and Edis One together for the conservation of Asiatic Lions
Zoo Santo Inácio has teamed up with artist Edis One in the conservation of the Asiatic Lion (Panthera leo persica), through the artistic decoration of the lions’ habitat with a focus on the educational dimension of species conservation.
An opportunity to draw our visitors’ attention to the urgent need to preserve this species, which is classified as “Endangered” by the IUCN. Asiatic Lions are rare in the world, as they only exist in the Gir Forest in India. One of the most important roles of EAZA Zoos is conservation education, by alerting, raising awareness and educating all their visitors about the dangers and threats that different species face in the wild.
The artist Edis One is an ambassador for the ANP/WWF in Portugal and created the Extinction Art Project, whose main aim is to raise awareness of wildlife extinction through street art by painting walls with endangered animals.
